National Excellence Award for Printoff!

On Thursday 6th April at the Hilton, Birmingham, Printoff Graphic Arts Ltd received the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF) Human Resource Best Practice Award 2006.

This national award is designed to recognise the importance of good HR practice in employment within the printing industry. Printoff Graphic Arts Ltd demonstrated its commitment to business excellence and professional approaches to HR. The company was 1 of 4 finalists who participated in the BPIF on site HR Healthcheck which identified that their best practice HR policies and procedures incorporate successful recruitment and induction initiatives, equal opportunities available for all and well managed attendance resulting in decreased labour turnover.

Printoff employs 41 staff and has been in operation since 1976. Celebrating its 30th birthday this year the company has developed best HR practices amongst its employees and has an outstanding record in growing its own talent. There are clear examples of career progression within the organisation and over 40% of staff have received long service awards for 10 years’ or more service.

Printoff’s HR policies and procedures are robust and wide ranging. Family friendly flexible working arrangements are in place, long term sick employees have been supported and assisted to return to work and there is a strong commitment to training.

Staff are encouraged to improve not only their own, but others’ performance. The unique staff development evenings are very popular and utilise a wide range of in-house staff talent as tutors. They cover over 20 varied topics from a stock market investment club, holiday French, eBay for beginners, target shooting and relaxation techniques. This demonstrates that the staff are comfortable to both work and learn together.

The company is rewarded by very low staff turnover, low absence levels and a motivated workforce.
